I played D&D at GenCon, got in a few play tests with my regular group, and bought the three corebooks: the Players Handbook, Monster Manual, and Dungeon Master’s Guide. As I write this, my Sunday gaming group is playing D&D again for the first time since 2008. My lunchtime group is playing it.

The 2014 edition of the Geek Tree is up. As has been our tradition for years (exactly how many years I can’t recall) I setup a dedicated Christmas tree for all of my geeky ornaments. It typically goes up the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and is packed with all manner of genre ornaments representing Star Wars, Star Trek, Ghostbusters, Loony Tunes, The Hobbit, the Marvel universe, and many more.
Christmas is only a few short weeks away, and although there is much and more to do with gift buying, Christmas party planning, and family visits, and The Battle of the Five armies, I have started squirreling away books for my Winter Reading List.
We are trapped on Earth. It’s something I felt keenly as a kid, which is why the destruction of Challenger, and then Columbia, hit me so hard. Hell, I still tear up just thinking about January 28, 1986, but neither tragedy changed my mind about the importance of space exploration and colonization.
