Radio Active #33: Battlestar Galactica Season 2 Soundtrack, Uncle Bear Podcast

The big news this week is about the new Nuketown web site and some of the content that’s soon to grace its Web pages. Balancing out the self-congratulatory ramblings and pleads for comments is a review of the Battlestar Galactica Season 2 Soundtrack, including several tracks from the CD courtesy of LaLa Land Records. There’s … Read more

Please Remember to Tip the Starving SF Writer

Science fiction writer Cory Doctorow turns the conventional wisdom that pirated SF novels are bad for the industry in his Locus Magazine column “Science Fiction is the Only Literature People Care Enough About to Steal on the Internet”. He raises two major points: 1) that the economy, as it has in the past, is changing … Read more

A New Crop of Gaming Podcasts

I’m working on my latest Knights of the Dinner Table “Summon WebScryer” column, and have decided to return to the Eternal Well of Podcasting for a third time. Normally I don’t like to keep hitting the same topic, save for my various “GM/Player Tools” columns, but in this case I think it does a service … Read more

Animal Crossing as Libertarian Paradise

A few months ago I picked up Animal Crossing: Wild World for the Nintendo DS, partly because I’d heard good things about it, partly because its a kid-friendly game I can play with my daughter, and partly because I’m always looking for games for my DS that are different from the norm. What surprised me … Read more

Searching for Geek Vlogs

Historically I’ve ignored video blogs as I almost always have more time to listen to shows than watch them. That changed when NeutronLad was born, and I now find myself up at 3 a.m. with nothing but bad infomercials and reruns of SportsCenter to keep me company. Yes, yes, I know there’s Tivo, but we don’t … Read more

Welcome to the New Nuketown!

After six months of hard work, a year’s worth of speculation, and a decade’s time spent on the Web, the new Nuketown is online. The redesigned site features a new look that evokes earlier iterations of the ol’thermonuclear burg, while updating it with a slightly glossier feel. New features abound on the site, which is … Read more

It’s a Boy: NeutronLad

NeutronLad was born at 6:13 p.m., Wednesday, June 14, weighing 8 lbs. 3 oz. and measuring 22″ long. He has a full head of his mother’s red hair, and we’ll see whether his baby blues turn into his father’s blue eyes, his mother’s brown, or something in between (like his sister’s). Sue and the baby are … Read more

Nuketown Redesign Blog Updates

As I mentioned in Radio Active #31, this month I will be transitioning Nuketown from its current configuration to a new, Drupal-based content management system and a shiny new layout. To avoid having to maintain two sites while I migrate the database from one to the other, I will not be making any updates to Nuketown for the next week to two weeks.

All will not be quiet however. If you want to track the progress of the migration, please read my Atomic Age blog over on Blogger, which will be updated almost daily. Look there for announcements about the second round of beta tests, screen shots of the latest versions, and quasi-technical rundowns of problems remaining and solved. Comments and feedback via the blog or Nuketown’s own feedback form are welcome and appreciated!
