The original topper for the Geek Tree was a glowing blue orb. Although vaguely sci-fi-ish, it wasn’t a great way to top the tree.
And then came Santa Yoda.
Part of a series of figurines that included a Christmas-themed R2-D2 and C-3PO, Santa Yoda features the 900-year-old Jedi Master in Santa garb. he’s got a full red-and-white Santa jacket, a Santa hat, and a sack full of toys slung over his shoulder. He stands about 4-inches tall and he served as the Geek Tree topper for many a year before being replaced by the Weeping Angel from Doctor Who (but that’s a separate Ornament-a-Day entry).
Santa Yoda was never meant to be a tree topper so to keep in in place atop the tree I had to rubber band his fee to the top of the tree. It wasn’t a particularly dignified solution, but from across the room, you couldn’t tell exactly how Yoda was staying in place.
These days, Santa Yoda is just another Christmas decoration, typically hanging out on our bookshelf or on the table next to the Geek Tree.
