@NuketownSF: Atomic Robo, Miles Morales, Titans, Cthulhu, Gloomhaven, Mountains of Madness

A recap of NuketownSF’s tweets for the week of January 24, 2021.

COMICS & COFFEE | Atomic Robo & the Fightin Scientists of Tesladyne – The story of an intelligent robot created by Nikola Tesla and his adventures throughout the decades. Scratches a similar itch to Hellboy and B.P.R.D., but more lighthearted and less horrific. An excellent early morning distraction from the need to go to work. #comics #tesla #atomicrobo

QUOTE – “Imaginary physics is a perfectly legitimate field of inquiry. It’ll revolutionize science. Just wait until we figure out what to look for and how to find it.” – Atomic Robo, Vol. 1

TV | TITANS – A grimmer, darker take on Teen Titans that, quite honestly, I didn’t need. Features an angry, brutal Dick Grayson (aka Robin) who’s split with his mentor and adoptive father, Bruce Wayne (aka Batman).

RPG – FATE OF CTHULHU – Time-traveling heroes battle internal corruption and Mythos forces to prevent the rise of a Great Old One in a future they pray will never be. A great premise with time-travel rules that look like they could actually work.

BOARDGAME | Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion – The accessible, easy-to-play, easy-to-learn offshoot of the super-complicated, mega boardgame Gloomhaven. It’s a cooperative game in which players are adventurers investigating dark goings-on in a fantasy city. My son and I made it one of our go-to board games during the pandemic. We don’t play it as much as Roll for the Galaxy, but it’s fun to break out on a Saturday afternoon.

QUOTE – “Automobiles have been the best melee weapon to use against giant monsters since the ’50s. It’s science fact. – Atomic Robo, Vol. 1

BOOKS | At the Mountains of Madness – H.P. Lovecraft’s classic tale of slowly-mounting horror and ancient civilizations in Antarctica returns with a beautiful new edition illustrated by François Baranger. Fans of John Carpenter’s The Thing will find much to enjoy about the book, which tells the first half of Lovecraft’s story. Part II arrives in 2021. https://frialigan.se/en/atmom/

GAMES | SPIDER-MAN: MILES MORALES – The PS4/PS5 follow-up to 2018’s SPIDER-MAN introduces New York’s other Spider-man. When Peter Parker heads to Europe with MJ, Miles stays home to hone his skills. He gets caught up in THE TINKERER’s plans … and a nefarious corporate plot.
