Warning: The Future Will Be Upgraded

I’m going to be upgrading Nuketown to the latest and greatest version of Drupal at some point over the next two days (hopefully tonight, given that I’ve laid in supplies of Mountain Dew and fried chicken, and the family won’t be home until late). I’m testing it on local version hosted by ye ol’PowerMac first, but if something unexpected happens when I update the live site, well, you’ve been warned.

Should the worst happen, and the site goes down, emergency updates will be posted to The Atomic Age, my Blogger backup blog.

Conversion the First

My test version of Nuketown survived the upgrade from Drupal 4.7 to 5.1 with minimal scaring. There was a navigation menu issue that was quickly fixed, and the Hall of Fame module hasn’t been updated to the new edition, but overall it went well. Now to walk the dogs, back up Nuketown proper and get on with the upgrade to the live site.

Conversion the Second

The conversion of the live site to Drupal 5.1.x went off without a hitch, and everything is now cool and froody. There are a few style issues relating to the Nuketown site theme; Drupal isn’t doing the nifty collapsible Ajax menus any more in my custom theme but I suspect this is just a question of tweaking the appropriate CSS.

If not, I may have to find a new theme to cannibalize for that purpose. That’s not necessarily a bad thing though, as I’ve been thinking of a few interface tweaks I can make to simplify site navigation.

I’m also going to be experimenting with 5.x’s optional “Views” module, which would allow me to replace the pages and pages of listings in the various Nuketown sections (e.g. blog, theatre, hoax central) with an easy-to-skim table view.

If you encounter any problems with the site, please let me know by posting a comment to this entry, or e-mailing me at nuketown@gmail.com.
