Radio Active #68: Geeking out at Balticon

Radio Active PodcastIt’s all Balticon, all the time as I recap my trip to the science fiction convention, talk about the panels I attended, and catch up with some old friends (and find some new ones).

I also talk about the new audio and video podcasts — such as Mur Lafferty and Jason Adams’ new podcast ZombInc and the supernatural fiction video podcast Stranger Horizons — that I discovered at the convention.

Getting the Show

There are several ways to get the podcast:

    • Balticon!

      • The big news is the only news: BALTICON!
      • I spent the weekend — Saturday & Sunday — at Balticon, and it was fantastic. As with GenCon, it was amazing to finally meet people whom I’ve been talking with online for years. Doug Rapsom, Mur Lafferty, Jason Adams, J.C. Hutchins, MA in PA, the Breakalls — in short, everyone I’ve been listening to, chatting with on Twitter for the last few years.
      • As for the SF angles … well, it covers every aspect of the genre; anime, books, movies (hell, movies are shown throughout the weekend, as are anime).

    • Mucking About With the Feed
      • Balticon has turbocharged my creative brain. Thinking about podcasting some short fiction of mine this summer. Also thinking of starting up a second game review podcast to test out some new technology I’m playing with (video, enhanced podcast). The question is … would you want such supplemental material to show up in the main Radio Active feed? Want the option of a individual feeds for side projects as well as a global, non-Radio Active, all-inclusive podcast feed? Inquiring podcasters want to know.

    • Feedback
      • Jonathan writes: “I just started listening to your podcast and I wanted to say your doing a great job. I wanted to comment about I think it was in episodes 64 & 65 about if star wars is too graphic for 5 year olds. I would say just depends because I started to watch star wars when I was 4 going on 5 and it didnt bother me.Because like you said there are certain scenes in the movie that might be bad for someone that age but it depends on the parent if they should let their 5 year old watch it”

      • Mur Lafferty and Jason Adams began “The Takeover” as a video project at LuLu, but then they lost their jobs and the project went into limbo. Now it’s back as an audio drama, and the first two episodes debuted at Balticon42.
      • The live show began with a rousing singing of Re: Your Brains led by J.R. Blackwell, then launched into the meat of the first episode, in which ZombInc — a company in which upper level management are all zombies — is taking over a web development company. It’ll be a full-blown, 10-episode audio drama available in June.
