Ornament-a-Day 2019: The Flying DeLorean

Star Wars and Star Trek dominated the early days of the Geek Tree, because those were the only ornaments that Hallmark and others were making. Thankfully, the rise of geek culture – and nostalgia for the 80s – led to a proliferation of other ornaments.

The flying DeLorean from Back to the Future, Part II is one of them. I missed the original 2012 “outoftime” DeLorian from Back to the Future because I never expected Hallmark to make one. When the flying Delorian (a superior ornament, in my opinion) came out in 2014, I made sure to get one.

It’s a battery-powered ornament who’s futuristic stripes glow bright blue when you press the button. It looks great and makes me wish it was one of the old-style powered ornaments. Even without the battery boost, the ornament looks awesome on the tree, especially when it’s flying near the top. It also provides a little genre-diversity to a tree that’s dominated by traditional space opera (as well as being the seventh ornament featured in Ornament-a-Day 2019).
