Dicember 2017, Day 6: d12

Tales of a GM is running the 12 Days of Dicember, a project dedicated dice in all their randomized glory. The question for the sixth day of Dicember is “what is your favourite dice shape?”

I can’t say I’ve given it a lot of thought, but I think I need to go with the d12. It’s a good solid die that sadly doesn’t see a lot of use.

Going through my “Cup of Shame” (the beer pitcher full of polyhedrals that is used by players who forget to bring their own dice), I found I have a surprising number of them. When I considered that each d12 represented a once-complete set of dice, I started to appreciate just how many dice I’ve had over the years.

  1. Hi Ken,

Yeah, the d12 often seems the forgotten die of the polyhedral set.

I like the sound of your Cup of Shame, that is a great idea. As you have so many “orphan” d12s, does that mean Players are walking away with the other dice?

    All the best
    Phil

    • It’s mostly me losing dice over the years (e.g. dropped dice bags, dice getting mixed up with other dice at the table, that sort of thing).

When the kids were little there was the very real chance that they’d swallow a die, but thankfully that danger has abated now that they’re 11 and 14. 🙂
