Blogworthy: White Box, Ravnica, Top Secret Returns, Clickbait, Marvel IMAX 10th Anniversary

Blogworthy is a regular column dedicated to blog posts that I’ve read and enjoyed. It’s a direct outcome of my RPG Blogs Reading List on Feedly.

5 Reasons Someone Might Build a Dungeon Filled With Clues, Tests, and Riddles: DM David runs down the reasons why someone might create archetypal puzzle dungeons like those featured in White Plume Mountain and The Ghost Tower of Inverness (aside from the stock “the wizard was crazy. obviously.” answer). Possibilities include: Test of Merit, Tempt Intruders with False Hope, Taunt Intruders with the Builder’s Genius and more. Well worth a read, especially if you’re contemplating a puzzle dungeon of your own.

Ravnica: Is This The New D&D Setting? Enworld speculates on whether Ravnica – the world-sized, guild-filled city from Magic the Gathering will be the next D&D setting book. After hearing back from Wizards of the Coast they confirm … yep, it really will be. Look for the  D&D Guildmasters’ Guide to Ravnica on November 20, 2018.

First Impressions – White Box: Fantastic Medieval Adventure Game: The Farsight Blogger offers a quick look at the White Box RPG; I hope the blog offers a more detailed review in the future.

Declassified — Top Secret: New World Order: One old school-style game not enough for you? It wasn’t for me. Rolling Boxcars reviews the new Top Secret game written by the original creator.

The Surprising Value of Clickbait to a GM: Campaign Mastery offers a good read looking at different kinds of clickbait, the thinking behind them, and how you can use those self-same techniques to good effect when running a role-playing game.

Marvel Studio’s 10th anniversary movie festival is IMAX-only: Finally Engadget runs down Marvel’s plans to celebrate the 10th anniversary of its superhero franchise with IMAX re-releases. I’d love to see see The Winter Soldier or Guardians of the Galaxy again in the theater — and watching them in IMAX would be even better. That goes for Avengers: Infinity War as well; I saw it in the mundane theaters twice but never in IMAX.

Movies along the Trail: Back to the Future: Easton, Pa.’s Karl Sterner Arts Trail is screening Back to the Future on August 25 as part of its Movies along the Trail series. Show time is 7:30 p.m.
