Space.com: House Passes Private Spaceflight Bill

The bill -- which needs Senate approval -- would regulate suborbital flights. On the plus side, it would prevent the FAA with going nuts on pilot and passenger safety issues, while rightly protecting the non-involved public from having a spaceship crash into their house. Democrats had tried to add safety rules to "protect" passenger pioneers (apparently by making sure that the regulator burden killed the industry, thus making sure no one could die -- yes, that's sarcasm).
