Analog Science Fiction and Fact

Analog is a tremendous publication, a long-running flagship of science fiction that never fails to impress and inspire me. It combines excellent fiction -- often with hints of libertarian thought sprinkled in -- with well-written, understandable science stories. This is hard SF at its very best. The Web site reprints some of the magazine's monthly columns, and features the full-versions of those stories nominated for speculative fiction's top honors. Like its sister magazine Asimov's, Analog's Web page isn't tremendous, but it works.

Libertarian Reform Caucus

It may seem strange to those used to the mainstream Democratic and Republic political parties, but it's possible to be a libertarian without being a member of the Libertarian Party, or even consistently voting for the LP.

I fall into this category of lowercase libertarians, who may agree with many of the goals of the LP, but find its radical idealism does more harm that good as it turns away voters who might otherwise be sympathetic to the party's long-term goals.

The Libertarian Reform Caucus seeks to change the LP into something more pragmatic, more moderate, more relevant and ultimately more effective. Exactly how much more moderate is a subject of considerable debate, both in the libertarian community at large, and in the essays featured on the site.

To bring this full circle back to science fiction, I'd like to note that science fiction author David Brin has written several essays for reformthelp.org as part of his ongoing quest to save civilization from the forces of pig-headed partisanship. That alone should make the site worth visiting.
