MacGamer Dispels Mac Gaming Myths

by Ken Newquist / January 1, 2003

One of my major concerns as I contemplate buying a Power Mac tower to replace my Windows PC is games. There's no denying the fact that there are a heck of a lot more games on the PC than on the Mac, and there's also no denying that it generally takes longer for the games that do get ported to Mac to be released. And yet, all the games I play on the PC have been released to the Mac,

While researching the Mac vs PC game issue, I came across Mac Gamer, a web site providing a comprehensive, geek's-eye look at the Mac gaming scene, providing gamers up to the minute news, the latest reviews, and a robust discussion forum.

The site's home pagefeatures constant stream of Mac-specific gaming news, including snippets of information about the upcoming Unreal Tournament 2k3 release, progress reports on Neverwinter Nights, new mods for Rogue Spear, and Mac-specific gaming features. Also included are occasional news items from the world of the PC, such as delays to SimCity 4's release, which ultimately effect the Mac (if it ain't out on the PC, it ain't going to be out on the Mac ... at least most of the time that is.).

Also prominent on the home page is the site's excellent columns section. Some recent topics included an ode one of Quake III's greatest maps, advice on backing up your Mac in OS X, and a look back at the old-school game Quake.

Combined with excellent reviews, a bountiful downloads section, and well-trafficked forum, Mac Gamer's content offers more than enough evidence that Mac addicts are just as obsessed with gaming as their PC counterparts.
