Gaming Report: Battlestar Galactica RPG Debuts at Gen Con Indy!

Gaming Report's announced that Margaret Weis Production's Battlestar Galactica RPG will debut at GenCon 2007. According to the press release:

The Battlestar Galactica RPG uses the Cortex System (the same game rules featured in the best-selling Serenity Role Playing Game) and emphasizes a fast pace, role playing, and character development. Players can join the action as the characters from the show, or create completely original characters independent of the core storyline explored in the television series. The book also reveals information about the universe, ships and space travel, Cylons, and storytelling styles in the BSG universe.

The game itself will be released in September. I've heard mostly good things (and the occasional frustrating thing) about Serenity and its Cortex System (with some areas of the rules being left annoyingly blank) and I'm eager to see how this excellent TV series is transformed into an RPG. I could see running a short Battlestar campaign that takes place entirely on the Pegasus or perhaps on another ship that managed to jump away during the initial Cylon invasion.

The web site for the game (which is "coming soon") will be found at http://www.bsg-rpg.com.

I got it as well, and even had a chance to play it (see my Day 2 GenCon report).

I liked it a lot; I felt it did a good job of encouraging the sort of dramatic conflict that we see so often in the show; the Plot Points mechanic really works well.

I picked up Serenity as well on the strength of this game; I know it has issues (though my edition has a character sheet ... yes!) but BSG was just too damn good.

Now to get my players to try this...
