Another week, another game of Star Wars. The adventure rolls on with a special flashback episode. Last week, our band of heroes learned of 32 Belasco Division E-company (aka the Early Birds), an Old Republic Army advance assault unit that went missing on Toprawa during the Great Sith War. This week, we'll be playing soldiers in the Early Birds, allowing us to learn first hand what happened to the division.
We played our first Star Wars game since December on Friday. Prepping the session had me digging through my various web resources looking for inspiration (and new entries for the campaign blog). They're a useful collection of tools for anyone running a Star Wars/scifi game, so I thought I'd share them.
We cracked it open for Friday's Game Day; there were only three of us to face the horrors of Shub-Niggurath because of the Christmas holiday, but we still had plenty of fun. Heck, we even managed to eek out a 17-point victory.
Snow plays havoc with Game Days. We plan out everything -- whose house we'll be at, what game we're playing, who's able to make it and then whammo, a Nor'Easter comes roaring in and dumps a half foot of snow over our plans.
In the old days, that would have meant the end of game night but now we have Xbox 360 and Xbox Live.
After five sessions of fighting pirates and swoop bike gangers, the heroes of my Knights of the Old Republic campaign went up against their first Sith: Kaldros Ygin, an arrogant self-assured student of the Dark Lady Aldera. I've been dropping hints over the last few weeks that Ral Duris, leader of the pirates of Zebulon Prime, had a Sith advisor. Ygin was the first evidence that she might not be the only Darksider on the Prime.

Even without leaving the Vargis Tau star system and its binary world of Zebulon we'd still managed to accumulate a dozen-odd NPCs, three or four ships, three adventure write-ups, a handful of locations. While I had references to all this stuff on my computer, it was in the form of adventure notes, and not readily browseable.
Our first official Star Wars Game Day is upon us. After two weeks of playtesting starship combat, we're launching into a first-level prelude campaign with about half of our regular players in attendance (the other half having family/work commitments).
Set in the time of the Knights of the Old Republic, the campaign begins on the Outer Rim binary planet of Zebulon in the Vargis Tau system. Zebulon's comprised of two worlds: the primary, Zebulon Prime, and its sister/moon, Zebulon Beta. The later of these is home to the Jedi academy that will serve as home base for the Jedi in the campaign.
As with our Dark City D&D campaign, hashing out our Star Wars universe is going to be something of a group effort. Frequent commenter (and longtime campaign member) Erilar worked up this excellent overview of Zebulon after I tweeted the name on Twitter:

That fact, combined with the timely arrival of a gift certificate to Amazon.com, has me shopping for some last-minute tools and goodies, including game master screens, battle maps, miniatures, soundtracks, and background material in the form of graphic novels and video games.
As my group's D&D Dark City campaign winds down, the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic game is ramping up. This week sees the group off because of a combination of family colds and Celtic Fest (which, given the rainy weekend forecast, will likely result in more colds, but I digress) but we've spent last few days thrashing out the KOTOR campaign.
Nuke(m)Con is coming back with guns blazing. After a one-year hiatus, my gaming group's homegrown convention returns September 19-21 with a slate of western-themed role-playing games.
We'll be playing Serenity, Dogs in the Vineyard, Aces & Eights and Deadlands: Reloaded. We're also running two high level Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 adventures on Friday and Saturday. During these adventures, which will involve two tables being run concurrently with two DMs, the Blackrazor Guild "A Team" will be launching a strike against Turrosh Mak, the Despot of the Orcish Empire. Character levels will run from 15th to 21st, which will make it one hell of a challenge for both players and DMs. It also represents the first time in a long while that some of the oldest characters in the campaign have seen play, so it should be a blast.
