It's that time of the month again, time for me to scramble for ideas for my Knights of the Dinner Table "Summon WebScryer" column. I've hit upon the idea of doing one based on RPG/gaming podcasts, but truth be told, I don't know if there are enough yet to warrant and entire column.
So far I've got Geek Fu Action Grip, which often ventures into gaming, RPGMP3 Magazine, a fledgling podcast that features the "best of" the site's audio RPG sessions, Gaming Uncensored, which is more of a computer-gaming podcast, and GeekSpeak, which is board gaming centric show. There's also Mortality Radio, but their schedule has become erratic.
That's a good start (and I suppose I could add Radio Active to the mix, since I'm adding game reviews to its lineup) but ideally I need another five or so podcasts to really flesh out the column.
Unfortunately, in searching for these podcasts I've once again encountered my old nemesis: keyword confusion. That means that when I do a search on, say, "RPG" I can loads of hits relating to computer or console RPGs, which tend to drown out the far fewer (yet more important to me) pen-and-paper RPG results. The same thing happens with general searches for "gaming" podcasts -- lots of computer game podcasts, very few board game/card game/RPG game podcasts.
So consider this a general call of RPG and non-computer game podcasts: if you have one, let me know. And if you find this posts a few weeks after it appeared, still let me know -- I might be able to get it in a future column and I can always promote it on Nuketown.
Update: 8/2/2005
Thanks for all the excellent podcast suggestions! Here's a list of the podcasts that made the initial cut; quite a few more have popped up since I wrote this blog entry, and I may end up doing a second podcast-centric column later this year (or perhaps early in 2006).
