From what I've read about the movie, the biggest problem Morgan Freeman has had is trying to get the studios to recognize that a scientific expedition can be exciting; apparently they keep arguing it needs to be some sort of an event film (Aliens! Rayguns! The World in Peril!) in order to sell it with the public.
Personally, I think an IMAX version of this could be one of the most spectacular movies ever made. I mean, hell, in that version it would truly feel like the Cylindrical Sea were rising above you!
Freeman had also been talking about a simultaneous release of Rama online and in theatres, so I'm sure he ran into issues with that as well. But it also sounds like he's been sticking buy his guns, and I'm cautiously optimistic that he can pull this off.
