This "everyone has something to do" approach also gave rise to the comment "everyone gets a trophy," which in turn reminds me of the line from The Incredibles in which Flash's mom tells him "Everyone's special" and he replies by saying "that's just another way of saying no one is."
It feels to me like 4E has over-reacted to 3E's imbalances by homogenizing the different classes. Almost all powers are attacks, and almost all attacks can be loosely defined as d20 + stat + weapon / implement bonus vs 10 + stat + armor / shield bonus. At least 1st level characters are very interesting to play.
I have a couple of Newquist friends, currently living in GA and AL. I believe they were born in MA, I wonder if they're a relation to you (within several generations).
