I agree wholeheartedly that getting prep times down is very important for those of us who like to tinker. Once you incorporate that aim into your work, you're half there.
I personally use a one page synopsis for each of my settlements, making that go smoother. It took some head-banging, but getting some good processes in place is very helpful.
