New Tolkien Novel 'The Children of Hurin' To Be Published

The Children of Hurin written by J.R.R. Tolkien and edited into shape by his son Christopher, will be released by HarperCollins. This expands upon an earlier version told in The Silmarillion.

According to the CNN story:

The story is set long before "The Lord of the Rings" in a part of Middle-earth that was drowned before Hobbits ever appeared, and tells the tragic tale of Turin and his sister Nienor who are cursed by Morgoth, the first Dark Lord.

I've got mixed feelings about this. It's great that more Tolkien material is coming out -- in a world as rich as this, you want more detail, not less but truth be told, I found the The Silmarillion to be a boring, ponderous read. Now I was 15 when I read it, and I haven't touched it since, so my more mature self might find virtue overlooked by the teenager ... but I doubt it.

If this is more of the same quasi-Bibilical storytelling, then I'll have to say thanks but no thanks ... and commit the cardinal book nerd sin of waiting for the movie.
