Sears.com Leaves Shoppers Standing at the E-Commerce Altar

Posted in by Kenneth Newquist on Wed, 05/01/2002 - 2:00am

A good friend of mine is getting married on Sunday. He and his wife-to-be are registered as Sears, and I need to know what's left on the registry. So being the techno-geek I am, I figured I'd jump on to the Sears web site and see what my friends would like.

Great idea, except -- of course -- it's not there. It's 2002 and Sears doesn't have a bridal registry online. J.C. Penny's? They've got it. Strawbridges? They've got it. Wal-Mart? Oh you betcha.

But Sears? Forget about it

So now, after fighting my way home through an hour's worth of traffic, I need to run into Sears (fortunately there's one on my way home) and check out the registry. Sure, they'll get their sale, but damn it, I can tell you one place that my wife and I probably won't be registering when we finally have kids.

Way to go Sears!
