Genetic researchers are developing all manner of crops aimed at helping people in developing countries, including such plants as such as "golden rice" that provides up to 50% of a person's vitamin A needs in one meal, which in turn is essential for preventing blindness. Unfortunately, the EU's hideously restrictive bioengineering policies are playing havoc with these policies, and preventing the crops from getting to the people who could use them most.
